Make your voice heard: Call for input on AI, the UPC, and patent trends
Survey launched ahead of LSIPR’s LSPN Europe conference | Seeks input on AI impact, Brexit, and Unitary Patent system | Focuses on patent challenges in pharma, biotech, medical devices, diagnostics to shape conference discussions in London.
LSIPR’s Life Sciences Patent Network (LSPN) Europe has launched a new survey to gather insights into the current patent practices across Europe.
The LSPN Europe 2025 Survey, which comes ahead of LSPN Europe in London in November, invites patent practitioners specialising in pharma, biotech, medical devices, diagnostics, and more to share their perspectives on the latest trends and hurdles affecting their work.
As the region adjusts to change—from the rollout of the Unitary Patent system and ongoing Brexit ramifications to the rise of AI—the challenges and opportunities facing patent professionals are increasingly complex.
The survey seeks to take a snapshot of the situation while also gauging the profession’s concerns, including rising costs, examination timelines, and cross-jurisdictional patent management.
The LSPN US 2025 Survey, which followed LSPN Spring in Boston, found that 64% of patent practitioners expected an increase in patent enforcement and litigation in the US in 2025.
Companies were divided on whether they planned to adjust their global IP filing strategies in response to geopolitical and economic shifts. While 34% said they intended to make changes, 32% said they would not, and another 32% were unsure.
The survey also highlighted several ongoing challenges, with more than half (55%) of respondents reporting issues with double patenting, and 60% described the US patent environment as difficult to navigate.
Regionally, North America was seen as the most difficult jurisdiction for IP filings (49%), followed by Asia (32%) and Europe (15%).
The latest European focused survey takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and is open until June 27. All responses will remain confidential.
By participating in the survey, responses will be gathered to shape a clear understanding of the current picture of life sciences in Europe and sent out in an infographic to all of those who participated.
Responses will also inform the LSPN Europe conference, hosted at etc.venues Monument, London.
